Ortho Appointment

I went to see Dr. Jabbour (Orthopedic Surgeon) this morning and he said that I do need arthroscopic (sp) surgery to "clean up" my left knee. Surgery is scheduled for March 24. Anticipated recovery time is one to two weeks. Could be longer if he finds more arthritis in the knee than the MRI indicates. I like him and am comfortable with the idea of this surgery. Wish we could do it tomorrow! In the meantime ... between now and then I need to have an EKG and some lab work and find a walker for use after surgery.

Beth, I know you are ready to have this done so you can walk more comfortably. How long will your hospital stay be?

I am glad you like your doctor. I think that means a lot, especially when surgery is involved.

You should consider getting those rail thingies to put around your toilet, to help you get up and down without injuring yourself while you are recovering. They aren't very expensive and can be installed in a matter of minutes.

I will be praying for you!

Thanks!
It's actually done out patient, so no hospital stay is required. I'll look into the grab bars. I know they're a good idea. I just hate admitting the handicap in any way. Thanks for the support and prayers!

Oh my. I had knee surgery a few years ago..and this time last year I was planning to have BOTH knees totally replaced. God healed them...well, they still ache sometimes, but for the most part are pain free as long as I take care to not do stupid things. So I swim, not run...I do the eliptical, not the treadmill...stuff like that. I need to hear more about your knees. I will be praying for you dear new blog friend.

You are both so sweet! Thank you for the encouragement and the prayers! I think the majority of my knee problems is a result of being so heavy! About 5 years ago I started working really hard on losing weight and went from 450 to 250 over about 3 long hard years. Then I went back to work full time (after 20 years as a stay at home mom / home schooler), hit some major life stresses (long stories for another day ... most of it is chronicled in exhausting detail on my other blog), fell into depression and most of it came flooding back on! :( Genetics don't help but the appetites still need to be surrendered to the Lord! Developed osteo-arthritis and was learning to cope with that. And then I tore the meniscus in my left knee. Could be much worse but waiting for surgery is hard especially on days when the pain seems to cloud everything else. Need to focus more on Him and less on me! Isn't that always the case! :)

I'm behind on my reading thanks to my dh's issues with his knee. But I'm glad to hear that there is light ahead.
