Monday (Morning Weigh In)

We spent yesterday evening, all 3 of us in one room at the same time (priceless!) watching the Academy Awards. I didn't care too much about who won what since the only movies I had seen were Blind Side and Julie & Julia. I thought those two were excellent but most of the rest I was quite happy to forego. (I would like to watch UP one of  these days but there's no rush.) Josiah had watched more of the nominated movies and may have had stronger opinions on who should win than I did. As for Bert ... I told him ahead of time that I knew he didn't like Alec Baldwin and didn't wish to hear it every time he was on screen. LOL! I gave in about 9:15 and went to bed because I spent too much time on my feet this weekend and I was hurting and wanted to go to bed.

This morning I got up and meandered into the bathroom to do my official weekly weigh in. You'll probably recall that I wasn't looking forward to it! I pull it out and it had already killed 4 more AAA batteries. Obviously some thing is wrong with it so I will package yet another scale back up and return it to Target! In the meantime I got a reprieve from any (well deserved) bad news!

Saturday's calories were within my target range. Yesterday was high. Not astronomical but high. Fish for lunch was a good choice. Nachos for dinner ... not so much! And today? Argh! I don't know where my head is right now. It is difficult for me to consistently control my nutritional choices when I am in pain or under stress. In fact it's difficult even when life is chugging along just fine. Pain and stress just make it worse! And so I repeatedly excuse my bad choices rather than choosing the better path in the first place! Today I walked into work carrying my strawberry raspberry smoothie and noted a huge tray of cookies in the workroom. Resist! Resist! I finished my smoothie for breakfast and ate an apple with a small piece of cheese for morning break. So far so good. Wish I could stop the report there. At noon I walked by the cookie tray again on my way back from the bathroom and wound up eating 6 of them for lunch. :( I did record them in my calorie intake journal (6 chocolate chip cookie = 800+ calories!) and can put that behind me and make better choices moving forward. I just wish I would get to the place where it wasn't so easy to make bad ones to begin with!

Today is a rainy gray day so it's a little easier to tolerate my inability to enjoy a stroll but I am still ready to get this knee fixed and put this part of the journey behind me. I can hardly wait to see the Orthopedic Surgeon on Thursday to get some sort of game plan underway! Bert picked up my MRI films and report today so now all I have to do is remember to take them, and my paperwork, with me on Thursday.

I received a welcome call this morning from a doctor's office. (There have been few of those in my life.) Dr. Morgan-Vanderlick, the first pain management doctor I had has joined a new practice and is available again. Although it was a blessing to find Dr. Movva when I needed him I really liked Dr. Morgan better and I am grateful to have the option of switching back to her care.

Quiet at work today. We were stuffing envelopes for a mass mailing but then discovered somewhere along the line a ball was dropped and it has to be trashed and done all over again. You can imagine how thrilled we all are! Anyway ... I caught up on Reality TV online while I was stuffing. Now I have a 20/20 program on Haiti playing. An 11 year old girl being sold for $150? I know I can't solve the problems or rescue all of them but there is part of me that really wants to fly over there and bring a few home. I wish I had made better choices sooner so I could more easily follow my heart now!

That's it for now. Until next time ....

I would have had a hard time passing up the cookies as well. Today's been stressful here -- my dh had a surgery that we weren't quite expecting. I really wanted to just pull into a McDs and order a #3 (with a Diet Coke of course). But I figured that getting to the gym the next few days is going to be tough, so I didn't want to double whammy myself by adding on a bunch of calories, too.

Good for you for acknowledging the cookie calories and getting back on track.
